39 I ' M W A L K I N G ( 1 9 5 7 ) I n January 1957 Fats recorded his next number one R&B hit, I'm Walkin' . "(Fats) had an idea and we were workin' together in Philadelphia," says Bartholomew. "He said he always liked songs with 'walkin'' in 'em. So we got together and we worked out 'I'm Walkin',' with the tremendous help we had from or guitarist (Papoose Nelson)." Earl Palmer thumped his bass drum and started a second line parade at a gallop with exhilarating solos by Herb Hardesty. "It all comes from those marching bands," stated Palmer. "That was a hit and when I came out here (to Los Angeles), Rick Nelson got me to play on his record when he did the cover on 'I'm Walkin'." Businessman that he was, Lew Chudd took note of Nelson's record and smartly soon signed him to a contract that reaped vast rewards for I MPERIAL . On February 15, Domino joined 'The Greatest Show Of 1957,' a touring extravaganza mounted by promoter Irvin Feld.
