It's astonishing that over 60 years after they were recorded and the fact the rockabilly and rock n roll from the 1950's has been voraciously collected in Europe pretty much since then that so much quality music is still being discovered and recovered for release on compilations like this. This time it's the Renown label of Durham North Carolina that gets the spotlight.
Almost a third of these tracks are previously unreleased the rest lifted from super-rare singles spanning 1957 to 1969 though it's often hard to spot the join. The youngest track, Harold Pope's `Stop Walking All Over Me' would have been a real throwback even then with ringing steel guitar, but it's a proper earwig, another standout is The Hi-Lit-ers raucous piano battering 'Dance Me To Death'.
There are 35 tracks in this collection, no filler, complete with rare photos, interviews and information packed into the booklet.

Es ist erstaunlich, dass über 60 Jahre, nachdem sie aufgenommen wurden, und die Tatsache, dass Rockabilly und Rock n Roll aus den 1950er Jahren in Europa so ziemlich seit dieser Zeit unersättlich gesammelt wurden, immer noch so viel hochwertige Musik entdeckt und für die Veröffentlichung auf Compilations wie dieser zurückgewonnen wird. Diesmal ist es das renommierte Label von Durham North Carolina, das im Rampenlicht steht.
Fast ein Drittel dieser Tracks sind bisher unveröffentlicht, der Rest stammt von super-rare Singles aus der Zeit von 1957 bis 1969, obwohl es oft schwierig ist, die Verbindung zu erkennen. Der jüngste Titel, Harold Pope's "Stop Walking All Over Me", wäre schon damals ein echter Rückschlag gewesen, aber er ist ein echter Ohrwurm, ein weiteres herausragendes Stück ist das raue Klavierspiel "Dance Me To Death" von The Hi-Lit-ers.
