Unreleased recordings by Steve Young and alternative country superstar Junior Brown are among the highlights of this album. Singer, songwriter, producer, folk and country music expert, and owner of Blue Canyon Records, Jim Terr, has delved into the archives of Bear Family Records and selected 21 wonderful songs by the creators of this music, well-known in New Mexico and the surrounding states, for this album. He included liner notes and published photos of all the artists.
The album is an excellent presentation of the region's diverse musical styles. Choé does not pretend to be a true overview of the music (which would certainly include more Latin and Native American music), but it is a surprisingly original mix. With the exception of Tom T. Hall's She Gave Her Heart to Jethro and the classic trucker's ballad Phantom 309, all songs are original songs by artists living in New Mexico, written between 1970 and 2022.
