John Jackson
John Jackson (1924-2002) was a disciple of the Piedmont school of country blues guitar playing, which was typified by crisp finger picking and solid bass runs. Born in Woodville, Virginia, in Rappahannock County, Jackson taught himself guitar by listening to 78 rpm records, including not only blues sides by Blind Lemon Jefferson and Robert Johnson, but also white performers like Vernon Dalhart, the Carter Family, and Jimmie Rodgers. Jackson often cited influences such as Mississippi John Hurt, Mance Lipscomb, and Son House in his playing.
