Die Judybats aus Knoxville waren der Inbegriff einer College-Rock-Band, die Folk-Rock-Einflüsse, gefiltert durch eine Alt-Rock-Sensibilität (man denke an Rem), mit schrulligem Pop und intelligenten Texten, die an eine amerikanische Version von XTC erinnern, verband. Der Titelsong ihres 1991 erschienenen Debütalbums Native Son landete in den Top Ten der Modern-Rock-Charts, und das Album enthielt auch eine großartige Coverversion von Roky Ericksons She Lives (in a Time of Her Own). Ein weiteres exzellentes 90er-Jahre-Album, dessen Vinyl-Veröffentlichung längst überfällig ist!
