Glenn Davis
Like Tex Morton, Australian-born Joshua Clydesdale Davis (born 1921-1992) performed at circuses and rodeos in his formative years. He was first exposed to Jimmie Rodgers' music by his sister, who played a recording of Daddy And Home on a windup phonograph when Davis was 10. Davis would eventually sing on the popular McKean Sisters radio program in Sydney. Unlike the prolific Morton, however, Davis only attended three recording sessions, cutting a total of twelve sides between 1955 and 1957 for Regal Zonophone, including Let Me Be Your Sidetrack. On those recordings, Davis' voice bore a remarkable resemblance to that of Eddy Arnold. His rhythmic guitar playing showed influence by folk musicians such as Woody Guthrie rather than the more primitive single strung-and-strum work of Rodgers.
