Diesmal ohne aufdringliches Glöckchengeflirre, anbiedernde Ho-Ho’s oder seltsam entstellte Rentierstimmen: Jedes Jahr um die gleiche Zeit biegen sich die Auslagen der Kaufhäuser durch vor eilig und oft verdächtig ähnlich zusammengestellten ‘Swing’-Samplern, denn: “Swing ist ja wieder im Kommen“.

Unsere Suchaktion in den Tiefen diverser Schellackregale förderte allerdings so manchen ungehobenen Schatz zutage. So konnten wir für den wahren ‘Spirit of Swing’ eine Lanze zu brechen.

Packende Musik der 30er und 40er Jahre, äußerst tanzbar, elegant aber cool, gespielt von erfahrenen Jazzmusikern, denen man den Spaß an der Musik anhört, seinerzeit gepresst auf eine Melange aus Schellack, Schiefermehl, Ruß und Baumwollflocken, abspielbar mittels Stahlnadel (oder wahlweise Kakteenstachel für geringere Lautstärke) mit unglaublichen 78 Umdrehungen in der Minute und .... äußerst zerbrechlich.

 ‘Windup’ bezeichnet übrigens das geeignete Abspielgerät mit Kurbel; aus heutiger Sicht sehr nachhaltig und umweltschonend!

Große Namen wie Glenn Miller - mit einer ganz besonderen Jingle Bells-Version, live aufgenommen am 24.12.1941!! - Paul Whiteman, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Barnet, Count Basie oder Ella Fitzgerald sowie Putney Dandridge, Jimmy Ray, Stew Pletcher, Alvino Rey oder Stuff Smith haben sich auf ihre jeweils eigene Art zum Thema Weihnachten geäußert und sei es, dass bei Jingle Bells die Pferde komplett Amok laufen (Jingle Bells von Bill Harty, Sängerin Ella Logan hat hörbar ihren Spaß).

Die Bandbreite reicht von charmant bis respektlos, endlich ein großes Fest für alle Fans echter Swing-Musik, denn Las Vegas kam erst sehr viel später. Auf ‘Santa Swings The Windup’ finden sich etliche Premieren auf modernem Tonträger.

Für Freunde hochwertigen Vinyls erscheint eine gediegene Auslese von 14 Titeln auf Langspielplatte, gepresst auf rotem Vinyl (BAF18074).

We go deep and far back into the archives with this upbeat Big Band Jazz compilation of Christmas songs from some of the hottest performers of the '30s and '40s. This is not your quintessential Christmas album. This a bona fide early Jazz era compilation that will add some spice and variation to your normal Christmas music line-up for the season. Bear Family Records really went to the bottom of the barrel with this one, and you should be glad they did. This is an unbelievably fantastic record! With iconic and historical acts such as Glenn Miller, Paul Whiteman, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and many more, this is a holiday music presentation unlike many others in your collection (that is, of course, unless you own the original 78rpm shellac records of these timeless and archaic recordings).
