Diese 3-CD-Box dokumentiert eine alternative Geschichte der Black-Soul-Musik aus dem Detroit der 1960er Jahre, jenseits der bekannten Legenden um das Motown-Label - und präsentiert 86 seltene Soul-Produktionen, die damals auf Labels wie Lu Pine, Sidra und Impact veröffentlicht wurden.

Darunter befinden sich 7 bisher unveröffentlichte Songs und mehr als 20 Songs, die hier zum ersten Mal auf CD zu hören sind, darunter einige der frühesten Aufnahmen von Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd und Bettye LaVette sowie Stücke von Künstlern, die später bei Motown zu Stars wurden, darunter The Supremes (als The Primettes), Marv Johnson, The Contours und Brian Holland.
